La Janda
La Janda was the biggest inland wetland of Europe until it is been partly dried up and converted into field crops (rice and cereals). But we still have nice concentrations of birds and many rare species: spanish imperial eagle, bonelli’s eagle, black-winged kite, but also cranes, black stork, purple swamp-pen…
Spanish imperial eagle, black stork and much more. We drive on rural roads in between crops where some of the rie table can be flooded. Ducks, and waders concentrate there. Purple swamp-pen, great reed warbler, reed bunting in the channel. Raptors overhead and following the perpendicual channel inland, in spring, all the tamariz will look like christmas tree, full of nests of cattle egret, night heron, glossy ibis, squacco heron… and also turtle dove. A nice natural heritage despite of the transformation this site suffered.
