The main migration path for birds in Europe! Raptors in spring and late summer to autumn, and seabirds from late fall to winter. And the show goes on with marine cetaceans, residents and migrants, virtuosos of seawater that adds on with our aerian acrobats going through the strait of Gibraltar!
A magical place! Suspended between Europe and Africa, 14 km ahead of us! Breathtaking scenery. From the heights of the surrounding sierras, over the Atlantic Ocean meeting with the Mediterranean Sea. Huge dunes, charming coves … Starting with thousants of white stork and black kite, then all kind of raptors glide on top of our head! Short-toed eagle, goshawk, sparrowhawk, booted eagle, honeybuzzard… And smaller birds such as all type of swallows and martin, migrating in mix groups. Seabirds such as shearwaters, gannet, storm petrel… alternate their migration with raptors. We choose few observation point amongst the network of observatories around the strait of Gibraltar (17 of them), depending of the wind of the day. Much more treasures on these lands with an impressive cultural heritage including roman and prehistoric remains that are worth visiting, and the fortified cosmopolitan town of Tarifa. Botanists will also enjoy themselves with a wide range of habitats and plants, remnants of tropical era in canutos (moist canyons) ….
